There is a history in the making amid the pandemic. You heard it right. The UK has begun the biggest ever immunization program from 8th Dec 2020. NHS staff have taken over the hospitals across the country to vaccinate patients against COVID-19. With the magnitude of work that is bound to take place and considering the Herculean task that this is, NHS staff have worked thoroughly through the pre-launch tenure to make this drive a huge success not only for the UK but the entire mankind.
There are 50 hospital hubs which have been selected for the first phase of vaccination and in the coming weeks, one can expect more to get enrolled as the vaccination program ramps up. The first to receive the jab are people above 80 years of age as well as care home workers. NHS workers who are at a higher risk are also being administered with the dosage. Once vaccinated, a jab after 21 is also slated to be given.
Even General Practitioners-GP as well as other primary care staff are put on standby to assist immunization program. A small network of GP led primary care workers shall start delivering the jab from the week beginning 14th December. Phased wise distribution of the same shall begin in more parts of the country during December and the coming months. As and when the further supplies start more vaccination centres will come up for treating patients across sporting venues and conference centres.
Despite the huge complexities of the vaccine and the way it needs to be handled, the UK looks all geared up for this uphill task. With the most vulnerable and over-80’s population of the country beginning to get vaccinated, one can only expect citizens to play their part by following local restrictions and protect NHS as they carry out this crucial work.
